Google has been testing a new feature for its Photos app that uses AI to stack similar images. Called ‘Photo Stacks’, the new feature was initially available to a handful of iOS users, but now it looks like the tech giant is rolling it out to those on Android.

Photo Stacks automatically groups similar images together, creating mini albums within your collection. The AI technology identifies the best shot and places it on top of the stack, reducing clutter in your gallery. Users can also customize the cover image of each stack or disable the feature altogether.

To enable Photo Stacks, simply launch the Google Photos app. If eligible, the option will appear automatically. Alternatively, access the toggle in the app settings under your profile picture.

In addition to Photo Stacks, Google Photos now categorizes screenshots and documents into separate albums, enhancing organization further.

While the rollout of Photo Stacks to more Android users is underway, the update is server-side, so it may take time before reaching your device. Stay tuned for these improvements, which promise to streamline photo management for all users.
