Apple’s first foldable, iPhone Duo, has been launched, and it will work like a book that opens into a big screen.
It comes with a 7.6‑inch inner display and a 5.4‑inch outer display, both with 120Hz ProMotion, making it very smooth for scrolling, videos, gaming, etc… and also has adaptive refresh rate. The screen supports brightness up to 3000 nits peak outdoors, 1600 nits HDR peak, and a 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio. Also, the Duo’s Inner display has a nano-texture finish and supports Apple Pencil.
The iPhone Duo is powered by Apple’s A20 Pro chip, built on a 2nm process, with a 6-core CPU (2 performance and 4 efficiency cores), a 7-core GPU with Neural Accelerators and hardware-accelerated ray tracing, and a dual 16-core Neural Engine for AI and on‑device intelligence features.
It comes with 12 GB of RAM and storage options of 256GB, 512GB, 1 TB, and 2TB.
Coming to the cameras, it features a 48MP Fusion Main with f/1.6 and sensor‑shift OIS, 8MP Fusion Ultra Wide with 120° field of view, and 12MP optical 2x quality, achieved using sensor crop from the main camera. It has 2x optical zoom in, 2x optical zoom out, up to 4x optical quality total, and up to 10x digital zoom. Its features include 8MP macro, up to 63MP panoramas, Smart HDR 5, Photonic Engine, and Deep Fusion. Apple describes this as a Dual Fusion system, with two 48MP sensors to give flexible focal lengths without a separate telephoto lens.
The video capabilities include;
- 4K Dolby Vision recording up to 60fps normally.
- With the Fusion Main camera, 4K Dolby Vision up to 120fps is supported.
- 4K Cinematic mode up to 60fps, and Action mode up to 2.8K/60fps.
- 4K Dolby Vision Dual Capture (front + rear) up to 30fps.
- Audio features include Spatial Audio and Audio Mix, and pro‑level stabilization.
On the front, the outer display has a 12MP Centre Stage front camera for selfies and video calls; the Inner display has an under-display FaceTime camera. Both cameras support Centre Stage to keep you in frame during calls. The inner camera is limited to 1080p video, meaning it is less advanced than the outer one. This is the First iPhone with an under-display camera.
According to Apple, the iPhone Duo’s battery supports:
- Up to 24 hours of normal use (with inner & outer display)
- Up to 44 hours of video playback on the outer display
- Up to 31 hours of video playback on the inner display
The iPhone duo uses a dual‑cell battery (one on each side), totalling around 5,400 mAh according to reports.
These battery charges up to about 50% in 20 minutes with a 60W+ USB‑C adapter, and supports of MagSafe wireless charging up to 25W and Qi2 wireless charging up to 25W.
Still, the iPhone Duo’s retail box includes the iPhone Duo and a USB‑C cable only, no charger, same as the other iPhones.
The iPhone Duo has a Titan book-folding design. At 254 g, this will be the heaviest iPhone to date. About 21 inches (5.2mm) and about 44 inches (11.1mm) thick when opened and closed, respectively. It’s rated for IP68 dust and water resistance. Its side button has an integrated Touch ID sensor, instead of Face ID. No physical SIM card slot or Action Button.
Colors are Star White and Night Sky.
Coming to connectivity, it has Dual eSIM support and no physical SIM slot; it supports 5G, Wi‑Fi 7, and Bluetooth 6. It has Apple’s own N1 wireless networking chip and C2 cellular modem. It also has a USB‑C port with USB 3 speeds up to 10Gb/s
