realme 14x has launched in India and is a successor to the realme 12x, which launched this year. Honestly, if we look at the specs of the phone, it seems like a namesake refresh with the 14 series tag because you didn’t do any upgrades and said it’s an upgrade.
Design
The realme 14x features a diamond design with a triple camera setup on the backside of the smartphone, and the phone also has IP68 and IP69 for water protection. The IP69 means it can withstand high-pressure water spray protection. Honestly, though, no one needs these kinds of water protection on the smartphone, and the phone has integrated foam seal protection for water protection of the smartphone and sonic wave water ejection. It uses the vibration of the phone to eject the water from the phone.
It also has MIL-810H protection for the drops protection for the smartphone and the phone has three colors: Jewel Red, Golden Glow, and Crystal Black, and the phone has downgraded the audio setup too from a dual speaker setup on the 12x to a single speaker on the 14x.
Display
The realme 14x features a 720p LCD with a 120Hz refresh rate, a max brightness of 620 nits, and a max touch reporting rate of 180Hz. The phone has an 89.9% screen-to-body ratio and also has full brightness on DC dimming technology, and the phone has a sunlight mode to help the phone reach the max advertised brightness of 620 nits, and again it’s a downgrade because the 12x featured an FHD+ display while the 14x features an HD+ display and a higher touch sampling rate of 240 Hz and a much brighter screen.
Performance
The realme 14x is powered by the Dimensity 6300 processor, which is the same CPU as the realme 12x but with higher CPU clocks with LPDDR4X RAM type and eMMC 5.1 storage, while the competition and even the predecessor had faster UFS 2.2 storage for faster read and write speeds. The phone also has 10 GB of dynamic RAM expansion, so you can extend the RAM to 16 GB, but the RAM expansion uses the slow eMMC 5.1 as the RAM type, which isn’t that good when you look for RAM performance.
The phone has AI signal enhancement to enjoy a reliable network in garages, tunnels and it improves the call and dialing performance by up to 15% and app download speeds by up to 15% and reduces the Instagram lag rate by up to 18% and Snapchat lag rate by up to 20% and it features free to call you can call the persons even without internet but it’s only on other phones which have the feature with Bluetooth on to make a call.
Cameras
The realme 14x features a 50 MP camera (OV50D sensor) with 2 trash cameras sensors, like black and white cameras or depth cameras, just to say we have the triple camera setup, or a VGA camera too. In reality, if you go to capture the good photos, you have a single camera setup, and thanks to the OV50D’s larger aperture of f/1.8, the phone can take stunning portrait photos of the person, and the phone also has AI Clear Face 2.0 to turn the old blurry portrait photos and the blurry photos into new photos, which seems like an interesting feature.
Battery
The realme 14x 5G is powered by a 6000 mAh battery, and realme claims the phone can keep 80% battery health even after reaching 1600 cycles of charge/discharge on the phone and features 38 layers of safety protection for all-day safety, and the phone has a 45W flash charge for charging the 6000 mAh, and the phone has sub-zero charging if you are living in the place where there are lots of cold, and the phone has OTG reverse charging, which can reverse charge the phone at 5W speed to top up the other phone.
OS
The phone features realme UI 5.0, which is based on Android 14, and the phone is set to receive two major updates with 4 years of security updates. The phone will have an app-specific volume with smart image matting so we can remove the photo and share the picture.
Pricing
The realme 14X comes in two variants, notably the 6GB+128GB variant and the 8+128GB variant. The 6+128GB variant is priced at ₹14,999, and the 8+128GB variant is at ₹15,999, there is a ₹1000 instant discount on credit card EMI transactions, so it brings the price down to ₹13,999 and ₹14,999, respectively, and it has a 12-month extended warranty for free on the phone if you order the phone before 23rd December.
Conclusion
The phone isn’t a good pick when you are looking at the price range, to be honest, and the phone itself is looking like an overall downgrade compared to the predecessor realme 12x in many departments like performance, display, and speakers, and it seems like the realme is trying to remove so many features just for the IP69 rating and the mega battery and the toughness. Honestly, it feels like a massive downgrade over the 12x.
