CMF by Nothing just launched their second smartphone, the CMF Phone 2 Pro. After testing the device for about two weeks, here are my initial impressions of this budget “Pro” smartphone.
This device is a loaner review unit provided by Nothing India to the author, Abhishek Hari, as part of the community review program. There has been no editorial input from Nothing. These are the author’s initial impressions of using this device over the past two weeks based on his experience. Additionally, the device was tested on pre-launch software. A new update will be coming post-launch.
Design
I got the black variant, which looks very sleek and minimal. The cameras are now separate and have an aluminium ring surrounding them.
Although the back is made of plastic, when viewed under light, it gives off a beautiful shimmering look that resembles frosted glass.

The device is VERY lightweight at just 185 g. That’s one thing I like about this phone. It makes holding the device for longer amounts of time very easy. This device is very thin as well, at 7.8 mm.
The design department did a good job on perfecting the weight and dimensions.

Display
The in-hand feel of the CMF phone 2 Pro is excellent. The display contributes to this factor, as this device has the exact same display as the Phone (3a).
The bezels are symmetrical and aren’t very thick. It’s just about fine, reasonable at this price point.

Battery and Charging
The battery is very solid. A full charge can easily get you enough juice that can last you a day. It has averaged 6+ hours for me, and can stay on standby for a few good days. A full charge takes about an hour with the free 33W CMF charger. It does good.

Box Contents
The box is much thicker now, which is good to see. It features a 33W CMF charger with a Type-C to Type-C cable.
A case is also included now. It’s a transparent silicone case, which turns yellow over time. Also, it’s a bit hard to remove the case after putting it on.

Software
This phone will come out of the box with Nothing OS 3.2. On the whole, Nothing OS is a brilliant take on AOSP. I love the look and feel Nothing has given to this Android skin. The top-notch implementation of widgets is something to applaud.
A good thing about Nothing OS is that there is no bloatware or alternate app store, which means no annoying notifications or odd stuff. It’s very clean and great for the price.

Performance
Under the hood is a Dimensity 7300 Pro, and it has UFS 2.2 storage.
The performance is just fine for day-to-day usage.
For gaming, it supports 120 FPS in BGMI, though it is not consistent. It stays around 111 and 120, not lower than that. But it does the job decently.

Essential Key
CMF has inherited the same Essential Space feature from Nothing and has implemented an extra button on the right side of the Phone 2 Pro.
It’s something you can use to quickly note fleeting thoughts, things you want to remind yourself of, etc. A unique feature.

Camera
On to the interesting stuff. The CMF Phone 2 Pro features a 50 MP 2x TELEPHOTO camera, with an OmniVision OV50D sensor.
This is a very rare sight in the under ₹20,000 segment, and much better than a 2 MP depth sensor.

Here are some image samples from the telephoto lens.

The main camera is a 50 MP Samsung GN9, and the ultrawide lens is 8 MP. I don’t mind the ultrawide being 8 MP here because at least they added it in a segment where two cameras are the most common!
Here are two images from the main lens and two from the ultrawide.

Conclusion
Now the million-dollar question: is this device worth it for the price?
