AMD has launched the new RDNA 4 based Radeon 9000 GPUs for gamers. It’s an upgrade for the RX 7000 series, which was launched around two years ago. The RX 9000 has competitive pricing, which is good for consumers.
Features
Raytracing
AMD has introduced third-gen ray tracing accelerators, which give the RDNA 4 2x the ray tracing throughput compared to the previous generation. This is a giant uplift when you consider that the RX 7000 wasn’t good at ray tracing. It’s a welcome improvement for gamers who have been avoiding Radeon GPUs for their bad ray tracing performance.
AI
2nd generation AI accelerators have received many enhancements, which are much faster than the already faster RDNA 3 architecture. They are expanding the AI accelerator to support new data types, such as FP8, and support for interference optimization techniques. These changes deliver up to 8x INT 8 throughputs per AI accelerator per compute unit vs. the previous generation, which is a giant leap in AI performance.
AMD has announced FSR 4, but this version is limited to the newer RDNA 4 GPUs only. Unlike previous versions where every GPU would have support for it, AMD’s new machine learning (ML) powered upscaling technology delivers high-quality boosted frames under demanding scenarios like 4K gaming with maximum ray tracing settings, and FSR 4 will be available on 30+ games at launch and 70+ in 2025, and with all these, FSR 4 uses the same API as FSR 3.1, allowing for smoother upgrades for developers.

Display
AMD’s Radiance display supports the latest DisplayPort 2.1a and HDMI 2.1b connections, enabling high refresh rates and resolution with support for 8k at 144Hz. It also supports 12-bit HDR and the full Rec. 2020 colour space, ensuring good colour accuracy. Paired with AMD’s FreeSync technology, gamers can experience a smooth gaming experience on over 4000 displays, including the 4K 240Hz and 8K 144Hz monitors with DisplayPort 2.1b when they launch.
Software
AMD has introduced a new suite of software and resources to deliver a good AI user experience with the Radeon RX 9070 series GPUs and keep the drivers and AI software up to date with the new software manager and free and private text and images with AMD chat. We can install and partner AI applications with the app portal and improve image quality with an image inspector. The software of the AMD GPU has come a long way.
Sku List, Availability, Pricing
RX 9070

The 9070 comes with 56 compute units, 16 GB of GDDR6 VRAM, and 2520 MHz of boost clock on the OEM card with 64 MB of infinity cache on the GPU with 220 W of board power, which is good since it only uses an x8 power connector. When it comes to gaming, the 9070 is 21% faster than the 7900 GRE in 4K gaming and 20% faster in 1440p gaming, which is so good on a $549 card, and the sales of the GPU start on March 6th from AMD’s leading board partners like Gigabyte, Asus, Acer, and XFX.
RX 9070 XT

The 9070 XT is AMD’s flagship graphics card this generation, with 64 compute units. The GPU features 16 GB of VRAM for the newer titles and up to 3 GHz of boost clock with 64 MB of infinity cache on the GPU with 305 W of board power, which is good since it only uses an x8 power connector. When it comes to gaming, it is a whopping 42% faster in 4K on average across 30 titles, and the best part is no FSR enabled or anything and up to 4x performance boost with FSR 4 on the 9070 XT vs. the 7900 GRE and 38% faster in 1440P on average across 30 titles
AMD also claims that the 9070 XT is just 2% slower than the 5070 Ti when you overclock it and give it 340 W it’s 2% faster, which is good since the 5070 Ti is priced at $749, so a good 23% performance per dollar advantage, and the 9070 XT is priced at $599 and is already on sale from 6th March.
