iQOO has launched the iQOO 16 in China, and it looks impressive. It is also the most affordable 8 Elite Gen 6 Extreme phone available currently, making it a great choice for those who want good performance.
Design



The iQOO 16 comes in three colours: Legend, Racing Track, and Light Colour. There’s also a laser holographic imaging technology in the light colour, which features a passive flow luminous visual effect, red and blue light shadows with the viewing angle flow emerging, and a deep, slow unfolding. Under the transparent glass in the camera bump, the robotic arm connects to three lenses in series, forming a navigation sign. The fine arc middle frame and back plate natural connection with a super large R-angle grip helps gamers with ease.
Display

The iQOO 16 features a 6.85-inch AMOLED display with 2K resolution and a refresh rate up to 165 Hz, an upgrade from 144 Hz on the IQOO 15. It uses Samsung’s LED display technology with new M16 light-emitting materials, which brings you 33% more lifespan. It also brings 29% lower glare, which is excellent for gamers. The phone also has 10000 nits of absolute peak brightness and 2800 nits of HBM peak brightness. iQOO 16 also has a 1.24x P3 colour gamut. The phone also comes with support for Dolby Vision, HDR Vivid, and HDR10+.
The phone also features DC tuning and support for 3300 Hz PWM tuning, with the brand claiming it reduces eye redness and increases eye fluid volume by 85%. It also features game glare protection. It features a new 3D fingerprint scanner that unlocks the phone with wet/soiled hands, and the fingerprint sensing area has been improved by 44%. The phone also features a 5000 Hz high instantaneous touch sampling rate and a 500 Hz multi-finger touch sampling rate.
Performance

The iQOO 16 is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 6 Extreme, built on a 2 nm process node. It features LPDDR5X Ultra RAM with 9600 Mbps data transfer speeds, and the 16+1 TB model uses LPDDR5X Ultra Pro with data transfer speeds up to 10,667 Mbps and UFS 4.1 Storage.
In testing, the phone achieved an AnTuTu benchmark score of 557000. The CPU offers a 13% speed improvement over the previous generation and a 37% power efficiency improvement over the previous generation. The GPU offers a 44% performance increase, and the NPU is 35% faster than the previous generation. The new Q4 chip brings a 15% performance improvement, 19% better AI computing power, and a 19% increase in cache speeds.
To cool the powerful CPU, it features an 8.5k VC cooling system and a large three-layer graphite layer with an area of over 29450 mm², which is 20% larger than the previous generation. It also features a large thermal gel; the VC is 6% larger than the previous generation, and the thermal gel is a massive 41% improvement over the previous generation. The phone also features self-developed full-scene ray tracing, which supports 10 popular games, and brings support for the QNSS super rendering engine. The phone supports 100 games at 165 fps; 11 games support QNSS super rendering. The phone has its own PC game simulator and a new game space in large-screen mode.
Camera
The iQOO 16 features a 50 MP main camera with a 1/1.3 camera sensor size and a 50 MP telephoto, which features 3x optical zoom and 6x lensless zoom with 100x digital zoom on the phone, and a 50 MP ultra-wide-angle camera. The light intake on the main camera has been increased by 79% with vivo’s self-developed ultra-light shadow HDR technology. The 50MP telephoto features a NICE 3.0 optical reconstruction engine and a Magic 3.0 image quality restoration engine, which can deliver 3x optical zoom and 20x ultra-clear zoom. The front camera is a 32MP sensor, and it can record 4K video, while the rear camera can record 8K video and 4K slow motion.
Battery
The iQOO 16 features an 8400 mAh blue ocean battery with 908 WH/L energy density, which is awesome. It’s based on 5th-generation silicon anode technology, and it comes with 100 W wired charging and 40 W of wireless charging and bypass charging, so that the phone directly delivers power and reduces heat off the phone.
OS
The iQOO 16 comes with Origin OS 7 pre-installed, which is based on Android 17, and the phone will get 5 OS updates, which means the phone will get Android 21 and 7 years of security patches till 2033.
Pricing
The iQOO 16 is priced at 5999 yuan for the 12+256 variant, the 12+512 variant is priced at 6799, the 16+512 variant is priced at 7499, and the 16+1TB variant is priced at 8499, which, when converted, leads us to 86000 for the 12+256 variant and 12+512 variant at 97000 and 107000 for the 16+512 variant and the 16+1TB variant at 122000, which seems pretty high for an iQOO phone, considering the current market, it seems priced well.
