The Redmi Watch 5 Active was launched in September 2024, which is almost 1.5 years since the watch was launched, and the watch’s price has dropped from its launch price of ₹2899 to ₹2499 and drops to ₹1899 during the sales time, which is a great price.
Design

The design of the Redmi Watch 5 Active feels premium for the price point, which is a good point, but the minus point of the watch would be that it feels a bit on the heavier side, which is 42 g with the included strap in the box and 30 g without the strap, and when you customize the straps, the weight would actually increase. Regarding the strap quality, it feels great; however, if you have large hands, the 22 mm strap may not fit well in your hands.
Hence, the device just had a minor scratch or scuff after about 10-20 drops, and Redmi has given a metallic body crafted with zinc alloy for impact resistance and IPX8 for splash and sweat resistance.
Display
The display of the Redmi Watch is a 2-inch LCD panel with a 60 Hz refresh rate, which looks awesome with a peak brightness of 500 nits. Surprisingly, the durability of the watch’s display has been pretty good too since my last outing with a Mi Band was pretty bad, and the watch has been dropped face down about 5 times because of the strap issue, and we got some pretty minor scratches on the display, which are only visible when you look closely at the watch. The brightness is pretty good, and honestly, at nighttime, I especially wish the watch had an extra dim mode since the minimum brightness feels pretty bright too, mostly.
Fitness Tracking
The health tracking features of the Redmi Watch 5 Active have been pretty good for the most part. The steps part is fairly accurate, but the calories part sometimes fumbles when you manually select a mode and do the task. Interestingly, when I manually calculate calories, my results are more reliable. I don’t fully trust the heart rate. There was one instance where it picked up the heart rate from my phone, but that was a rare occurrence. Most of the time, the device prompts me to wear it for accurate readings. The device doesn’t have its own GPS tracker for tracking the device’s location; it relies on the phone’s GPS for location tracking.
Battery

The device features a massive 470 mAh battery, and Redmi claims that the device can last up to 18 days, but in the real world, you would get around 10-12 days of battery life, which is good. For the charging of the watch, it uses magnetic charging, and it can top up the watch from 0 to 100 in just 1 h 45 min and to around 40% in 30 min if you want a quick charge, and there’s an ultra battery saver, which would be useful when you want to use it for 30 days on a single charge, and in the ultra battery saver, it will only show the steps data and the steps count.
OS

The Redmi Watch 5 Active comes with HyperOS v3 preinstalled, which is pretty good, and it’s actually smoother. The notification style is impressive, displaying notifications in a capsule format. However, it only supports English and Hindi for language options, along with certain emojis on the watch. The Mi Fitness app is used to monitor the device. It’s pretty good; the User Interface looks modern and provides food that’s equivalent to the calories you have burned. There is a bug in the battery percentage display. It shows 10%, but it can drain the battery from 10 to 0 in around 6 hours. This is an issue that Redmi needs to address in upcoming updates.
Pricing
The Redmi Watch 5 Active was launched at a price of ₹2,899, and it is currently available for ₹2,000. Now, the big question is: is it still worth buying in 2026? Yes, the fitness tracking remains among the best in the segment. Consider choosing the watch if you have larger hands and are looking for a durable, reliable fitness tracking watch within a budget of 2k.
