The Samsung Galaxy M36 is a successor to the Samsung M35, which was launched on July 17th, 2024. This phone appears to be a downgrade in the display section, as its predecessor featured a hole punch, whereas this model has a waterdrop notch. Additionally, the battery section is also a downgrade, which is somewhat disappointing.

Design

The M36 features an upgraded design when you compare it to the last generation, and it features a new camera island, which is kind of similar to the camera module we saw in the F16. It’s slimmer and lighter design, and it’s 15% slimmer because they downgraded the battery to 5000 mAh from 6000 mAh. Galaxy M36 comes in three colors, and those are: Velvet Black, Serene Green, and Orange Haze.

Display

The Samsung Galaxy M36 features a big 6.7-inch FHD+ display with 120 Hz refresh rate and vision booster so that you can use the phone in the sunlight without any problems. The phone has the Gorilla Glass Victus+ for the display protection, and it should protect the phone from minor drops, so that’s a great thing for the phone, and, yeah, it has a downgrade here too. You might notice that the phone has a teardrop notch instead of the Infinity-O display found on the display, and the display is a downgrade, honestly, over the previous gen, and you lose around 200 nits of brightness (800 nits vs. 1000 nits panel).

Performance

The Samsung Galaxy M36 features the Exynos 1380 chipset, which is based on a 5nm process node, and it features a vapor chamber system to keep 1380 cool enough while demanding workloads. The phone features 5G too, and if you are looking for gaming with the phone, you probably might say to get a better phone, which will give you a lot more performance than the M36, as for the real world, it’s kind of great since One UI 7 has optimized the phones a lot.

Cameras

The M36 features a 50MP OIS camera with an 8MP ultra-wide camera and a 2MP macro camera, which is again like saying advertising for the triple camera setup. There’s an auto-night mode that takes nightography to the next level, which is good, and the phone can record in 4K on both the rear and the front cameras, which is again great for a phone under 20K price. There are a lot of AI features like photo remaster, which lets you enhance the quality of the pictures, and object eraser, which helps users erase the unwanted stuff on the photo. The phone also has a 13MP selfie camera on the front for great selfies.

Battery

The phone comes with a 5000 mAh battery now instead of the 6000 mAh battery that Samsung has been providing until the M35 series, which is a downgrade for the power users who want to get more battery life. The advantage for the consumers is that the device is slimmer, having 7.7 mm thickness, and Samsung claims it’s 15% thinner, and the phone still has support for the 25W charging, which should now fully charge the phone in under 1 hour 30 minutes, which isn’t good again for the price segment.

OS

The phone comes with One UI 7 preinstalled out of the box. The phone is guaranteed six major updates, ensuring excellent software support until Android 21 and security patches until 2031, which is excellent for phones under 20k. The phone supports Samsung Pay Mini for tap and pay, has Circle to Search capability, and includes Knox Vault for enhanced security.

Pricing

The phone starts at ₹16,499 for the 6/128GB variant, around ₹17,999 for the 8/128GB variant, and the 8/256GB variant is priced at ₹20,999. These prices include the ₹1000 instant bank discount applied, so the prices would change without the bank offers, and honestly, the prices look decent and better than the launch prices we got with the M35. The sale for the smartphone should start by July 12th on Amazon and the Samsung online shop.
