Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 vs Exynos 2400: Both Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and Samsung’s Exynos 2400 are the brains behind the latest flagship smartphones, but choosing between them can be confusing. Here’s a simplified breakdown to help you understand the key differences.

Recently, Samsung has launched their Galaxy S24 series with Exynos 2400 processor in Galaxy S24 and S24+ models (in some regions) and the Galaxy S24 Ultra powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset.

So, what’s the difference between both of the chipsets? Let us discuss.

Process Node

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is equipped with TSMC’s second generation 4 nanometer process node and the Exynos 2400 has Samsung’s third generation 4 nanometer process node.

CPU Performance: Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 vs Exynos 2400

Both processors use ARM’s latest CPU cores. The Exynos 2400 has a Deca Core (10 core CPU), while Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 has an Octa Core (8 Core CPU).
Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 has Cortex-X4 CPU core clocked at 3.3GHz while Exynos 2400 has a Cortex-X4 CPU core clocked at 3.2GHz. Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 packs three Cortex-A720 CPU cores clocked at 3.15GHz, two Cortex-A720 CPU cores clocked at 2.27GHz and two Cortex-A520 CPU cores clocked at 2.26GHz. The Exynos 2400 features two Cortex-A720 CPU cores clocked at 2.90GHz, three Cortex-A720 CPU cores clocked at 2.6 GHz and four Cortex-A520 CPU cores clocked at 2.0GHz.

GPU Performance: Do Exynos have an edge over Snapdragon?

The Exynos 2400 is equipped with Samsung Xclipse 940 GPU whereas Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is powered by Adreno 750 GPU. Exynos 2400 has an 8MB L3 cache memory while the snapdragon 8 Gen 3 has 12MB L3 cache memory. So overall, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is more powerful for graphics heavy tasks like Gaming and Video rendering. While the Exynos 2400 can also handle different tasks, but it may struggle with the demanding one’s.

Battery Life: Snapdragon vs Exynos

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is slightly more efficient, meaning that your phone might last longer on a single charge. Talking about the Exynos 2400, it has good battery life, but the battery might drain a bit faster under heavy use. However, battery backup depends upon the tasks performed by the user in different conditions.

Connectivity

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Supports the latest Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 that provides faster wireless connections. Exynos 2400 supports Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3, providing good speeds, but not the best considering the competition.

Availability

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is equipped in various latest flagship smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, IQOO 12 and OnePlus 12. Exynos 2400 powers the newly launched Galaxy S24 and S24+ in most countries, except for the USA, China and Canada.

Benchmark Scores:

The devices used for these tests are Galaxy S24 with Exynos 2400 and OnePlus 12 with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset.

Antutu Test

Antutu scores of Exynos 2400 came around 1.35 million. While the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipsets performed well here, it scored around 2.03 million. So, in Antutu test, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 performed much better as compared to the Exynos 2400 chipset.

Geekbench 6 CPU Benchmark

In Geekbench 6, the scores are quite similar to each other as Exynos scored 2017 single-core and 6480 multi-core scores while the Snapdragon chipset scored 2141 single-core and 6400 multi-core scores.

Throttle Test

While talking about the throttle test, Exynos got 59% of throttle score while the Snapdragon chipset on OnePlus 12 throttled to 77% of its maximum performance in a fifteen minutes of throttle test. So, here as well the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 performed better than the Exynos 2400 chipset.

Conclusion

Rather than believing the on-paper specs and claims, it would be a better to make final decision based on real-life experiences of the users with the chipsets. As the past experiences with the Exynos chipsets were not great and still if Exynos 2400 continues with the poor performance, heating and throttling issues then the situations might become worse.

So, as of now, we can say that Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is currently leading in terms of pure performance and cutting-edge features along with an overall great performance. Talking about Exynos 2400, it may also provide good experience to most of the users, but it might struggle while performing heavy tasks with the poor performance and heating issues.
