WhatsApp may soon allow its users to do cross-app chatting. Read this article to know how this feature will work.
EU (Europian Union) is nowadays famous among tech enthusiasts for imposing new laws on tech companies every now and then.
Previously, they forced Apple to use USB type C port in their iPhones instead of the Lightening port. They also forced the brand to allow its users to sideload apps on their iPhones.
Most of the people praised them for forcing Apple to give type C port but many of them criticised them for forcing side loading of apps because this might not be safe and virus might enter the device.
Now, the EU has come up with the European Union’s Digital Markets Act (DMA) forcing messaging apps to allow users to send and receive messages to other apps. WhatsApp is one of the most popular messaging apps in the world and it will be affected by this Act the most.
In a recent interview, WhatsApp’s engineering director, Dick Brouwer said that WhatsApp will soon introduce this new cross-app chatting feature allowing users to reply to messages received from other apps using WhatsApp.
Will cross-app chatting be safe?
As we all know that WhatsApp works on end-to-end encryption because of which no one not even WhatsApp can see your messages. Many people are thinking that will the messages be still encrypted after the add-on of this new feature.
For any third-party messaging app brand looking to integrate with WhatsApp, Meta ( parent company of WhatsApp) will require them to sign a contract that commits that they will comply with strict privacy and security guidelines.
How will it work?
To ensure the security and privacy of users, WhatsApp will introduce an opt-in system which will allow users to get access to a new part in their inbox named ” Third-party Chats”. They can use the app like before and they will get an extra part in the app to reply to the messages from other apps.
Conclusion
This was all about the cross-app cheating feature being introduced in WhatsApp and it will most probably be EU-exclusive.
Only the future will tell us how WhatsApp will manage the end-to-end encryption and privacy of its users while allowing them to send messages to other apps from WhatsApp.
