An APK teardown of the Pixel’s Device Health Services app revealed that Google is working on a new feature it calls “Adaptive Thermal” to deal with the overheating problem on its pixel phones. The Adaptive Thermal introduces an additional, popup notification which allows threshold temperature measurement service to be triggered in case of overheating unlike current temperature safety measures in smartphones.

How Google’s Adaptive Thermal Protects Your Pixel Smartphone from Overheating
Android Authority report working together with tipster Mishaal Rahman discovered various strings connected to Adaptive Thermal by searching through version 1.27 of the Device Health Services app. In case the battery temperature exceeds 49 degrees Celsius, this feature triggers a “pre-emergency” alert. They may see messages like “phone needs to cool down” while others will receive that they would feel “less responsive.” The pop-up also tells users not expose their devices directly to sunlight and terminate any energy-consuming apps. Furthermore, there is another option known as the “See care steps” providing advice on how to cool down such as placing it where there is enough air circulation.

As of now, Pixel devices, like any other smartphones, are equipped with built-in strategies to prevent overheating. These include CPU throttling, disabling features such as the LED flash and 5G connectivity and slowing down charging in order to safeguard the device. Further enhancements to these measures have been made by this Adaptive Thermal that periodically checks the phone’s temperature automatically every five minutes. When it goes beyond 52 degrees Celsius, it does not hesitate but rather moves into a ‘panic’ condition. Going as far as 55 degrees Celsius might cause the phone shut down possibly after a warning message in 30 seconds.
A proactive step by Google through inclusion of Adaptive Thermal in its smartphones will be significant improvement in smartphone thermal management. It is important to note that as smartphones become more powerful and their usage becomes more intensive; the effective management of heat becomes very significant.
For instance, Adaptive Thermal can prevent overheating related malfunctions or damage and extend the life span of devices hence ensuring user safety. In conclusion, Google’s Adaptive Thermal feature is a promising area for Pixel smartphone’s thermal management system for better protection and users’ peace of mind when their gadgets are running under high load or exposed to high temperature conditions.
