The tech community is going wild over a new revelation from the shadowy field of chipset development. The appearance of the codename SM8635 suggests that Qualcomm may be working on a new and affordable Snapdragon 8s Gen series chip. Let’s dive into the details.

Updated on February 21, 2024: Another tipster on X has confirmed that the SM8635 chip we have been seeing around is indeed the Snapdragapon 8s Gen 3 and the SM7675 chip is the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3.

Read the original story below:

Reputable tipster Digital Chat Station just revealed the new codename SM8635 on Weibo. Even though the actual name is still a mystery, rumors indicate that this processor will be part of the highly regarded Snapdragon 8 Gen series.

Not only did the leak provide the codename, but it also gave us a look at some of the specs of SM8635. This chipset boasts an impressive 2.9GHz ARM Cortex X4 core, which indicates a similar architecture to that of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

Adding to its processing power is the Adreno 735 GPU, which suggests better graphics capabilities and an overall better user experience. Rumors indicate that the SM8635 could potentially surpass the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in terms of sheer performance.

Nevertheless, the chipset’s specs indicate that it will be placed somewhere between the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in terms of raw performance. This could mean that the chipset will be named Snapdragon 8+ Gen 2 or Snapdragon 8s Gen 3.

A tipser on X, Roland Quandt, reveals Qualcomm’s plan to release two models with identical specs. He states to have found no difference between the SM8635 and the SM7675. SM7675 seems to be the codename for a Snapdragon 7 Gen series chip but nothing is concrete as of now.

The future is uncertain, but you can look forward to hearing speculations about possible flagship competitors. Rumor has it that the highly anticipated SM8635 could be carried by the Redmi Note 13 Turbo and POCO F6, putting them in the limelight. These devices should make a debut in Q2 2024.

The SM8635 could be an affordable alternative to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, making its way to the upper-midrange smartphones. With the official name and the detailed specifications still unknown, the SM8635 leak has sparked intrigue and excitement, and we can’t wait for the official announcement.
