Apple has launched the new iPad mini 7th generation, which is an improvement to the iPad 6th generation, which was launched in September 2021.

Design

The design for the iPad mini hasn’t changed really vs the predecessor which it’s replacing right now though for a small change apple has removed the SIM slot on the iPad mini too now so if you want to get cellular speeds and calls from the sim you have to get an e-sim when we speak about the colours the new iPad has they have added one new option which is the blue colour.

Display

Again, this is an area where Apple hasn’t changed anything seriously. It has the same stereo speakers and the same dual microphone setup with the same 60Hz panel, but the only thing that has changed is that Apple has added support for the Apple Pencil Pro and has added Apple Pencil Hover for the display and brings the support for the Apple Pencil USB C too on the board, and we don’t know if this model has support for the Apple Pencil 2nd generation.

Performance

The 7th generation iPad mini comes with a significant performance upgrade, featuring the Apple A17 Pro chipset as opposed to the predecessor’s A15. Apple claims that the newer chipset gives a 30% faster CPU performance and a 25% faster GPU, and it also has hardware accelerated ray tracing, which the iPad mini 6 lacks, twice the RAM vs. the successor; it gets 8 GB of RAM, and the A17 Pro has a new WiFi card, which enables the iPad mini to get support for WiFi 6E, which Apple claims is twice as fast as the previous generation, and it also brings support for Bluetooth 5.3, which is faster and more efficient than 5.0, which the mini 6 has,

The iPad mini 7 also features an upgraded USB port, which can support one external monitor at 4k 60hz compared to the mini 6th generation, which used 4k 30hz.

Cameras

The iPad Mini 7th generation features a 12MP wide camera on the back, and a 12MP sensor on the front and the 12MP sensor in the back camera can record 4K videos at 60fps. The front camera can do 1080p 60fps video recording and panorama up to 63mp photos, and it has a true-tone flash on the back. It also has smart HDR 4 technology, which will come with improved colour, contrast, and lighting for each subject, including in challenging conditions, and it also features improved night mode for better photos in night situations; otherwise, the camera setup is the same compared to the previous generation.

Battery

The iPad Mini 7th generation features a 19.3-watt hour battery with a 20-watt charger, which is the same as the iPad Mini 6th generation, but we expect better battery life because of the manufacturing node improvements vs. the 5nm technology that the iPad Mini 6th generation has used.

Software

The iPad mini 7 is preinstalled with iPad OS 18 out of the box, and it has support for Apple Intelligence because Apple upgraded the RAM size from 4GB to 8GB, which the iPad mini 7 doesn’t have, though you have to wait a bit if you want to use the Apple Intelligence features.

Pricing

The iPad Mini 7 starts at ₹49,900 for the 128GB + wifi variant. If you want the cellular variant, you have to pay ₹64,900 for the 256GB variant; it’s ₹59,990, and for the cellular variant with wifi, you have to pay ₹74900, and for the 512GB variant, it’s ₹79,900, and for the cellular variant, it’s ₹94,900.

Priced at ₹11,900 for the Apple Pencil Pro and ₹7,900 for the Apple Pencil USB C version. There is a ₹3000 instant cashback on American Express, Axis Bank, and ICICI Cards.

The Pre-orders have started for this model and it will be ready for purchase from 23rd October 2024.

Verdict

The Apple iPad Mini does not get many changes on board. Apple has finally brought up the base storage variant from 64 GB to 128 GB, which is a much-needed improvement for the consumers, and you are getting twice the RAM from 4GB to 8GB, which is a good change too, and the performance of the CPU has been brought up too by 30% compared to the predecessor, but it’s the least upgraded iPad to be honest because there are fewer improvements.
