While everyone posts engagement bait saying, “I just got my Mac today! What apps should I install?” you don’t really get solid answers. So, I have decided to make a list of the top 5 best Mac apps I cannot live without.
Alcove
While many devs are trying to create the perfect notch app for Macs, the dev behind Alcove nailed it. It’s been made in such a way that a person who doesn’t know this app exists might think it’s a default macOS feature! The good thing about the app is that the dev is very active, doesn’t ignore feedback, and you’ll only have to purchase the app once. No subscription nonsense!

FineTune
It’s baffling to me that even after all these years, macOS still does not have per-app volume control. FineTune fixes that. The best part is that the app is free and completely open-source! Furthermore, you get granular volume control along with EQ.

Rectangle
I dislike how macOS manages windows. This app fixes the gripe I have. Yes, there’s nothing much to say about this app. It just brings back the only few Windows 11 features I miss. And it’s free!

AppCleaner
It’s annoying when apps leave behind redundant files when you just uninstall them from the macOS Finder. It causes unnecessary storage buildup, which might look small at first but will pile up significantly over time. This free app fixes the very same issue, without a single penny.

CleanshotX
Yes, yes, before ya’ll ask why anyone would pay for a screenshot app, I have an answer for you. The native macOS screenshot editing tools are very barebones, and the annotation tool is very janky. CleanshotX is just a one-time payment (cheaper for students) and fixes all the issues I have with the native screenshot app. Scrolling screenshots are a nice touch, too!
