OnePlus has launched the 15R, and it’s the first phone in India to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset. It features the largest battery ever on a OnePlus phone in India, which looks great.

Design
The OnePlus 15R features the same camera bump design as the OnePlus 15, which means we can expect an upgrade in camera design. For a better in-hand feel, the phone has bigger, rounded corners and a smoother transition to the mid-frame, which looks great and makes holding the phone for longer gaming sessions comfortable. The camera bump size has been reduced compared to the OnePlus 13R, which is 3 mm to 2.2 mm on the 15R, and the phone also features IP66, 68, 69, and 69K, which is good. The phone comes in charcoal black, mint breeze, and electric violet.

Display
The OnePlus 15R comes with a 6.83-inch display with FHD+ 1.5K resolution with a 165 Hz refresh rate and 1800 nits of HBM brightness. The display is covered by Gorilla Glass 7i, and it comes with 100% DCI-P3 and 10-bit colors with an aspect ratio of 19:8:9. The display now drops to 1 nit of minimum brightness instead of 2 nits on the 13R, and thanks to the new touch response chip, the device can reach 3200 Hz of instantaneous touch response rate, which is the industry’s fastest. The new ultrasonic fingerprint sensor captures our finger’s 3D contours with sound waves, which means it can unlock in any situation.

Performance
The OnePlus 15R packs the 8 Gen 5, which is the world’s first smartphone based on the 8 Gen 5 chip, and it brings 36% faster CPU, 11% faster GPU, and 46% faster AI performance. To cool this CPU, the phone brings a 360-degree cryo velocity cooling system. It has a 3D vapour chamber, which is tailor-made for the design, and it’s also made of a hand-tearable steel layer. On the back panel, we have an additional layer of graphite so that the phone will stay cool to the touch, and it consists of a total cooling area of 43940 mm², which is the largest in the history of OnePlus.

For the RAM, it brings LPDDR5X Ultra, and for storage, it brings the UFS 4.1 ROM, which is good, and the phone can deliver 120 fps constantly in MLBB for one hour of gameplay, and thanks to the advancements in the software, it can deliver smooth performance while switching applications even in a 45-degree room temperature. Thanks to the new wifi chip, we are getting excellent wifi speeds even in a crowded room and all-home coverage, and thanks to the new hyper-rendering engine, we can get excellent frame rates.
Cameras
The OnePlus 15R comes with an IMX 906 50MP camera with OIS and an 8MP ultra-wide camera as the secondary camera, and for the selfie camera, we are getting a 32MP selfie camera, which is an improvement over the 16MP sensor we got on the 13R. The selfie camera also comes with autofocus, and with the autofocus, it makes sure that everyone’s face is clear, and there is no need to tap to focus.
The Detail Max Engine, which was present on the OnePlus 15, is now coming to the 15R, which is excellent, and the phone now supports 120 fps on 4K videos, and it gets real-time tone mapping, and now we can share the motion photos on Instagram.

Battery
The OnePlus 15R comes with a massive 7400mAh battery, which is the largest on a OnePlus smartphone, and the phone comes with 80W charging support, which can top up the massive 7400mAh battery to 50% in 23 minutes, which is good. It supports bypass charging and reverse charging, which are good features.

OS
The OnePlus 15R comes with OxygenOS 16 pre-installed out of the box, and it follows the same OnePlus 15 update policy, which is four major OS updates and support for six years of security updates. These are good, and they come with support for Plus Mind and with OnePlus Flow Motion and parallel processing for the OS smoothness is excellent, and it comes with a lot of AI features like AI Voice, Scribe AI, and Perfect Glow.
Pricing
The OnePlus 15R is priced at Rs 47,999 for the 12+256 GB variant and Rs 52,999 for the 12+512 GB variant, and it comes with a 3k instant discount on HDFC and Axis credit cards, which brings down the total price to 44,999 and 49,999 for the higher variant. The offers are valid till 31 December 2025.
Impressions
The pricing is not very competitive since we are getting the same camera system on the back, and given the limited card offer, it’s not a good deal for those without the card discount.
