Poco X7 Overview: Budget Just Gets Interesting!

The smartphone launch season in India has got a head start with the launch of the POCO X7 Series, consisting of two devices, the POCO X7 Pro and the POCO X7, respectively. While the Poco X7 Pro is a gaming beast focused on heavy users, especially younger generation gamers, the X7 is more of a balanced device targeted towards the general audience, with a focus on all categories instead of a single one. Let’s discuss X7 in detail here!

POCO X7

Unlike the Pro version, the POCO X7 boasts a rather bold design with a huge centred camera module and a huge logo passing right through the middle, reminiscing the DARE TO LEAP texts behind realme phones back in the day. The novelties in POCO X7 are the IP69 rating, the Gorilla Glass Victus 2 screen glass, the newer chipset, and the new and improved main camera.

Some of the new features in POCO X7 are better than those in the Pro version, like Gorilla Glass Victus 2 vs. Gorilla Glass 7i and a 3D curved AMOLED display vs. a flat one. Let’s get into these features!

Design and Display

The POCO X7 comes with a 3D curved structure, for the first time in a POCO device. It hosts a distinct design expected from a POCO device with a flashy camera module and colour options. There are three colour variants, one with the expected POCO yellow colour, a green colour and a grey colour. All three colours come with a glossy plastic back which some people like but despise by others.

The display is packed with a 6.67-inch 1.5K 3D Curved AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate. It is a beautiful display with minimal bezels and a peak brightness of 2000 nits. It is an LTPO display, thus it can variably switch from 1Hz to 120Hz. The display supports Dolby Vision and also has an optical in-display fingerprint scanner.

Performance

The POCO X7 comes with a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Ultra chipset, based on the 4nm TSMC architecture with LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.2 storage. For the price offered, the performance is good with a bit of improvement above POCO X6, especially in terms of GPU. That aside, we can realise that performance is not the biggest strength of this device.

The POCO X7 scores around 6.8 million AnTuTu score and in Geekbench 6, it achieves a single core of 1000 and a multi-core score of 3000. This aside the performance is just good enough for basic tasks or even basic gaming.

Software

The POCO X7 comes with HyperOS 1.4 based on Android 14, unlike the Pro which comes with the brand new HyperOS 2.0 based on Android 15. For a budget manager, this is very fine considering the software has been optimised well. HyperOS is smooth with good animations and works flawlessly with fewer or no bugs. Regarding software support, the device comes with 3 years of software updates and 4 years of security updates.

Battery and Charging

The POCO X7 comes with a massive 5500 mAh battery in India (while 5100 mAh in global) and the charging speed has oddly been reduced to a mere 45W which comes inside the box. Thus it will take around 65 minutes to completely charge the device.

The phone also comes with stereo speakers, and an IR Blaster while missing out on a headphone jack.

Cameras

POCO X7 comes with two cameras. A 50MP primary Sony IMX882 1/2″ primary sensor with OIS and an 8MP Ultrawide. The photos look good from both the main and ultrawide when there is an adequate amount of light but fall short when there is less light.

We can shoot up to 4K 60fps using the main camera and up to 1080p 30fps using the selfie camera. Thus the camera too is not necessarily a strength of this phone, it can get the job done!

Conclusion

The POCO X7 is a very balanced device aimed at people who want a stable experience while not messing up anything basic for the price. However, the POCO X6 series had several major issues including heating and battery drain issues. We hope the X7 series won’t disappoint users with such issues, but it is better to keep it in mind and wait for some user reviews to clear the doubts. While it’s extreme winter, still at least we can get an idea of this and other aspects of the smartphone. The POCO X7 starts at INR 19,999, including all the offers! The sale starts on 17th January at 12 PM.
