When it comes to engineering marvels, there are limited brands focusing on technological developments rather than iterative upgrades. Huawei is one of the R&D-based companies and a recent example is their Mate XT (the World’s first commercially available trifold). On February 20, Oppo joined the race by unveiling their ridiculously thin next-generation foldable smartphone—Oppo Find N5.
Overview
The Oppo Find N series is the company’s foldable series lineup and Find N5 is their fourth generation. It is the successor to the Find N3. The most emphasized factor of the phone is it’s appearance, thickness, sliminess, and weight. Let’s talk about it in detail in this post. Read the article until the end to understand Oppo’s “SlimYetPowerful” project.
Build and Construction
The Oppo Find N5 is 8.93mm thin when it’s folded, and only 4.21mm thin when it’s unfolded. This is the most interesting part, as joining both halves barely and rarely equals the thickness of a normal phone. Also, it is as thin as two coins and approximately half the iPhone’s thickness. The hinge is made up of Titanium Alloy Flexion material. The smartphone is IPX6, IPX8, and IPX9 rated, ensuring protection from high pressure and high-temperature water or some liquid.
Display
Compared with the Oppo Find N3 (or the OnePlus Open), the display specifications have changed a bit. The outer display is a 6.6 Inch and the inner display is a massive 8.12 Inch. Both displays are 120Hz OLED LPTO technology, ensuring a premium experience.
Not to mention, the inner display is only a few inches smaller than Apple’s iPad Mini. However, the surface area is bigger on Oppo, being a foldable smartphone. Before the official launch, the company compared Find N5 with the competition (Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6) illustrating the crease’s visuals. Apparently, the crease appears less on the Oppo than on Samsung, which is a premium standard set.

Performance
For the performance, the Oppo Find N5 boasts the latest and greatest Snapdragon 8 Elite processor. However, there are only 7 cores instead of 8 cores. It features a 16GB RAM and 512GB Storage option. With respect to real-life performance or gaming performance, in general, it will not be as comfortable as normal phones, but still, the bigger screen will provide you with a different experience.
Software
The Oppo Find N5 is loaded with Android 15-based ColorOS 15. All the amazing and typical ColorOS 15 features are available here. In addition, the tweaking of the software for foldables has been done very nicely to ensure seamless multitasking. The software also has reliable support for floating windows. The phone is expected to come with Deepseek R1 integration.
There is a new O Plus Connect application, which needs to be there on the other device as well. To use the feature, connect both the devices to the same Wi-Fi, which will allow you to seamlessly access and manage your photos, and videos to the respective device. There are other functionalities as well and many more features that will make the software experience smooth.

Battery and Charging
The Oppo Find N5 features a massive 5600mAh battery with 80W fast charging support. The appreciable fact for the company is that while maintaining the phone’s slimness at 4.21mm (unfolded), it still allows the space for a bigger battery capacity. The battery life will vary depending upon your use.
The Find N5 finally supports wireless charging, which the predecessor lacks. However, you need to purchase a compatible case that supports magnetic wireless charging. The wireless charging speed is also 50W, which is better.
Camera
While everything yet on the Find N5 appears fantastic and perfect, the cameras will let you down. We don’t know what the company was thinking or what could be the reason for such an initiative. The one significant reason can be the thinner design.

The camera hardware is a huge downgrade from Find N3 and OnePlus Open. The rear module includes a 50MP Main, 50MP Telephoto, and an 8MP Ultrawide (a massive downgrade from the predecessor). The sensor sizes of all three lenses are downgraded as well. The phone supports Hasselblad tuning.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the Oppo Find N5 is turning out to be a great foldable smartphone. The competition, especially Samsung, needs to level up the game since the Chinese OEMs are ridiculously developing good technologies. However, we understood one thing from the camera downgrades, that too much thinness will result in significant compromises. Hence, it is advisable to select a balanced approach.
