Nothing has launched its new smartphone- Nothing Phone 2a on 5th March 2024. There are many things to discuss regarding this smartphone. Now, this year, brand launched the Nothing Phone 2a which brand claims is an upgrade of the previously launched Phone 1, but it is not better than the Phone 2 both in terms of specs and pricing. Nothing Phone 2a comes with a punch hole, 6.7-inch FHD+ Amoled Display with 120Hz refresh rate. With that, it has HDR 10+ support with 10-bit color accuracy and 240Hz touch sampling rate. There are 2.1mm thin bezels with a peak brightness of 1300 nits. But keep in mind that you can’t use it on 1300 nits brightness all the time.
This is because the phone will achieve a peak brightness only under some circumstances like when the auto-brightness mode in turned ON and you are consuming a HDR content. So, to make some of the scenes more attractive and brighter, some of the pixels achieve the peak brightness for a few moments only. This is not the case with Phone 2a specifically, but it is same with all the other expensive smartphones as well where brands use these numbers in their marketing.
Build and Design
While talking about the build and design of the Nothing Phone 2a, it has a Plastic back that attracts a lot of fingerprints. Along with it, the Glyph Lights on the back have been reduced by Nothing and they are only available around the horizontal dual-camera module of the Phone 2a. it have a 6.7″ display and its thickness is 8.55mm and weighs 188 grams. It is available in two colors- White and Black.
Camera
Nothing Phone 2a boasts a dual-camera setup on the back aligned horizontally. There is a 50MP main camera with OIS(Optical Image Stabilization) and a 50MP Ultrawide camera at the rear along with a 32MP front camera. The camera of Nothing Phone 2a has several other features as well such as Ultra XDR, Motion Capture, Night mode, Portrait Optimizer and Action Mode(for clear and steady 4K videos).
Processor
Nothing Phone 2a is equipped with MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Pro 5G Chipset.
Software
Nothing Phone 2a runs on Nothing OS 2.5 based on Android 14 out of the box. It will get 3 major Android updates and 4 years of security patch updates. While talking about software experience of Nothing smartphones, they provide a good software experience to the users and are continuously improving it. One of the best parts is that the software is completely Bloatware free that definitely uplift the user experience.
Battery and Charging
Nothing Phone 2a is equipped with a 5000mAh battery and a 45W fast charging support in wired way. It does not support wireless charging.

Considering the on-paper specifications and a good pricing, Nothing Phone 2a seems to be a value for money smartphone. The phone is providing good specifications considering its price. However, there are several cons as well in this smartphone like its processor, plastic back, slower RAM and Storage type, no wireless charging support and 45W wired fast charging might feel slower to you.
But all this depends on your use case scenario and needs, as no smartphone is a perfect smartphone.
