American Smartwatch brand Fossil was silent in the smartwatch market for more than a year but no-one thought that this brand will decide to shut the smartwatch making department.

On Friday, in a interview given to The Verge, the brand finally announced that you won’t see any Fossil Smartwatch from now on.

It’s kinda sad to see a brand that used to make smartwatches in traditional style quitting the market. Fossil Smartwatches used Wear OS when Google also didn’t care about it much.

Fossil smartwatches were there in the market from nearly 9 years and this decision is like a surprise for most of the users. But actually, this all started in 2021 when Wear OS 3 based on Android 11 debuted.

Google partnered with Samsung for the first time. Samsung watches started to gain sales and praises and Fossil’s market share went even lower when Google acquired FitBit and launched their own Pixel Watch.

Fossil hadn’t launched any watch last year. Many users were thinking that they are probably waiting for a new chipset and we will get to see a new smartwatch soon this year.

Although, these speculations about company’s exit from the market were already being circulated on reddit and company was also giving heavy discounts on its watches.

A Fossil Spokesperson said – As the smartwatch landscape has evolved significantly over the past few years, we have made the strategic decision to exit the smartwatch business. Fossil Group is redirecting resources to support our core strength and the core segments of our business that continue to provide strong growth opportunities for us: designing and distributing exciting traditional watches, jewelry, and leather goods under our own as well as licensed brand names.

Fossil’s sub-brands like Michael Kors, Skagen, and Diesel will also discontinue smartwatches. The company said it will provide support for existing models for a few more years.

Fossil will continue making the normal watches and the brand was originally a traditional watch brand from the start and has many fans worldwide.

Fossil’s exit from the market will definitely leave a gap and currently there is no such other brand in the market.
