Apple launched the iPhone 16e on February 19th, 2025. It is a successor to the SE 3, which was launched in 2022. However, the 16e isn’t very good when you consider the price of the 16e and its competition.
Design

The iPhone 16e features a space-grade aluminum body on the sides for protection. Speaking about the design, the phone doesn’t have MagSafe support, which seems like a minus. The phone features a single-camera layout that resembles older designs. The phone features an action button similar to the iPhone 15 and is available in two colors, namely black and white.
Display

The iPhone 16e features a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with a 60 Hz refresh rate. As usual, the phone has 800 nits of typical brightness. For HDR content, the display can achieve a peak brightness of 1200 nits; however, you need good HDR content to get 1200 nits of brightness. The display is the same as the iPhone 14, featuring the older notch instead of the Dynamic Island, which the 15 had, and it also has a ceramic shield for protection.
Performance
The iPhone 16e features the A18 chipset from the iPhone 16; it lacks one GPU core. It is a smaller variant of the A18 chip. The new chip will be 10-20% slower and feature Apple’s first modem, the C1, which was developed in-house to reduce reliance on Qualcomm for modem components. The modem’s efficiency improves the phone’s battery life more efficiently than the 16. Apple has optimized the modem with the A18 chipset, which is a positive move from Apple as it aligns with Apple’s strategy of enhancing its chipsets with better performance and efficiency. The phone does not support UWB (ultra-wideband), which enables more precise tracking of AirTag locations.
Camera
The iPhone 16e features a 48 MP main camera without an ultrawide camera, and the phone has 10x digital zoom. The phone has 4K 60 fps video recording, and the phone has a 12 MP selfie camera, which can also capture videos at 4K 60 fps. Thanks to the iPhone 16e adopting the notch design versus the iPhone 8 design, the phone gets support for Face ID with the help of so many sensors, and the phone also features the photonic engine, which improves low-light photos.
Battery
The battery of the phone is improved by a lot when you compare it with the previous generation SE 3 and the iPhone 15 too, thanks to the C1 modem, which is proving to be an efficient modem here thanks to the OS optimization Apple has done that gives the iPhone 16e a battery life of 26h on video playback and 24h on the 16. The phone features 20W fast charging, enabling it to reach 50% in 30 minutes. However, it does not support 15W MagSafe and offers Qi Wireless 7.5W Charging.
Software
The iPhone 16e comes with IOS 18 pre-installed and features Apple Intelligence, which is the first time in the price segment, and that also means the RAM size has been increased from 4 GB to 8 GB in the base variant for the Apple Intelligence requirements
Pricing
The phone is priced at 59,990 for the 128 GB variant, 69,990 for the 256 GB variant, and 89,990 for the 512 GB variant. Now comes the worst part: the pricing of 60k. You can buy an iPhone 15 with an ultra-wide camera and no notch and a better display too, but the only advantage you have on this phone is Apple Intelligence, which gets English support next month for 60k. It isn’t good enough, and the 15 has a lot of advantages over the 16e.
