Finally, the Apple Glowtime event has ended and the brand has unveiled its iPhone 16 series along with other Apple products. As usual, there are four models – the base iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, and 16 Pro Max. In this article, we will discuss the iPhone 16 Plus and will tell you about its upgrades compared to the previous generation and whether it’s worth upgrading over last year’s iPhone 15 Plus.

iPhone 16 Plus – Specifications

Design and Build

Talking about the design, the iPhone 16 Plus has got a new camera module design along with new colours – Black, White, Pink, Teal, and Ultramarine.

The phone has a ceramic shield front and a glass back along with an Aluminium frame.

Display

It’s the same 6.7-inch Super Retina XDR display which still supports only a 60Hz refresh rate and has a peak brightness of 2000nits in HBM mode.

After facing a lot of criticism, this phone still has a slow refresh rate of 60Hz. After paying this much amount, a customer deserves at least the basic features like these but Apple as always, thought that it’s not an important thing.

Cameras

iPhone 16 Plus

The back camera setup is a dual camera setup. There is a 48MP main camera with f/1.6 aperture and OIS and the other one is a 12MP ultra-wide lens with f/2.2 aperture which has autofocus and can now capture Macro photos too.

Apple is advertising a 2x telephoto lens too but that’s just a digital zoom and there isn’t any dedicated telephoto lens.

The selfie camera is the same 12 MP camera with f/1.9 aperture and autofocus.

This phone supports up to 4K60FPS video recording from the back camera as well as the front camera.

The biggest thing that Apple has added in its 16 series is the Camera Control button and thankfully, it’s available on all the models. This button is a pressure-sensitive button and is designed to enhance your shooting experience. If you single-click this button, it will open the camera app on your phone and if you click it again it will capture an image. Similarly, if you’re in video mode, it will start recording the video.

If you light press the Camera Control button, you can access controls like zoom and if you double light press, you can select another camera setting.

Along with this, you can now pause video recording in the latest iPhones which was absent in the previous generations.

Software

iPhone 16 Plus boots on iOS 18 out of the box. Apple has introduced many new features with this latest iOS version including call recording, themed icons and many more.

We have talked about iOS 18 in detail in a previous article. Do check it out after reading this post!

Performance

The iPhone 16 Plus has finally got an upgrade in the performance. It features a new Apple A18 Bionic Chip based on latest gen 3nm architecture.

According to Apple, it’s up to 30% faster in CPU and up to 40% faster in GPU as compared to the A16 Bionic Chip used in the iPhone 15 Plus. Also, the latest models feature a graphene sheet to ensure the phone stays cool for longer and you can play games uninterrupted.

Battery and Charging

As usual, Apple never discloses the battery capacity of its phones but they are claiming that the battery size on the 16 Plus has been increased. The charging speed is the same (20W) and the charger isn’t included in the box.

Apple Intelligence

Apple has also introduced its AI which they pronounce as Apple Intelligence. It’s similar to other phone brands but it can do most of the tasks on-device which ensures data privacy for the users. Apple promises that if on-device processing is not possible for a heavy task, the data is uploaded to a private server and only the user can access it, and not even Apple can see that data.

Apple has introduced many interesting tools like Writing Tool, Summaries, Priority message in Mail, Genmoji, Clean UP, and Image Playground app.

Price and Availability

As we mentioned, the iPhone 16 Plus will be available in five colours – Black, White, Pink, Teal, and Ultramarine.

iPhone 16 Plus will be sold in three variants – 128GB for INR 89990, 256GB for INR 99990, and 512GB for INR 1,19,990.

Pre-orders for iPhone 16 series will begin from 13 September and the sale will start from 20 September on Apple’s online store.

Conclusion

This smartphone could be a no-brainer deal if the brand had provided a 120Hz refresh rate in its display because the rest of the features are very good. The iOS has its own benefits and Apple lovers know that.

Talking if it’s worth the price? I would say no! If you can adjust with Android, there are several better options available like the vivo X100 Pro, OnePlus 12, and more and if you want to buy an iPhone only, you can wait for Diwali sales in which you can probably grab the iPhone 15 Pro for around 90-95K INR price and that price makes it a great deal. Not only does it have a 120Hz refresh rate display, but it also has a better camera setup.
