OnePlus India is facing issues over its lifetime green line warranty program, which led to a ₹93 crore GST notice from the Indian govt. issued for the year 2024-25. Sales and profits went down last year, and the total tax notices reached ₹280 crore.
Green lines occur on AMOLED displays after updates, especially on the older OnePlus 8, 9, and 10 series and due to this, it made users tensed and made lots of backlash on social media. To fix this and maintain their user market share, OnePlus introduced the Green Line Worry Free Solution, which is a lifetime free screen replacement program for some models, but this has now raised serious questions from tax authorities on how the benefits were made and taxed.
GST considered the warranty as taxable, and OnePlus is competing against it and paid ₹10 crore under protest. Not only the large tax notice, but OnePlus’s revenue fell from 13% to ₹12,983 crores, and profit went way down to only ₹16 crore in FY 2024–25. Currently, OnePlus is fighting the case and is trying to prioritise customer experience with this unique warranty.
