Material You is a unified design language by Google. Google had already introduced it with Android 12 and extended the support for various platforms like Google Drive and Gmail for a better and enhanced user experience. Now, it is expected that soon it could be rolled out for Wear OS as well.
Wear OS is an operating system for Smartwatches and other wearables just like One UI for Samsung’s Android devices and IOS for Apple’s devices. Wear OS is now expected to get Material You Dynamic Color Theming and a redesigned Grid App Launcher. In this article, we will discuss these features in detail along with the expected release date.
Dynamic Color Theming in Wear OS
It is an interesting feature as the system will use the same theme and color of your phone. Meaning that there will be a similar interface on both the Phone and the Smartwatch as well. There will also be an option to select the Color Theme manually. All these things can be done from the “Wear OS” app. Please note that the OS will only pull colors from the watch face that support the Wear Watch face API and are made using the Watch Face Format.
As per the reports, these can be the various colors that you can choose from:
- Almond
- Pomelo
- Champagne
- Limoncello
- Lime
- Pear
- Mint
- Jade
- Spearmint
- Sky
- Sapphire
- Flamingo
- Melon
- Dandelion
- Aqua
- Lilac
Please note that when Google rolls out Material You with the Dynamic Theming support for the Wear OS, all the smartwatches will not support it immediately. But the smartwatches like the Google Pixel Watch and Samsung Galaxy Watch might be the first one to get Material You support with Dynamic Theming option.
Wear OS ‘Grid View’ App Drawer
At present Wear OS has a simple list view that displays the name and icons of the installed apps. But now it might get updated with the new “Grid View” App Drawer. In the early version of this design, a string references the grid view as a “three_column_grid_launcher.” Now it’s not sure that if it will look like Apple Watch’s original “honeycomb” layout or a squared grid like on the Android smartphones. But there might be a Grid View App Drawer.
Expected Release Date
It is possible that Google might roll out their dynamic theming with the Pixel Watch with the upcoming March 2024 Pixel feature drop. While talking about Grid View app drawer, it appears to be in the early stage of development and may take time to roll out.
