The vivo X Fold5 features significant upgrades, including a 30% improved Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset and the addition of 80W charging for foldable devices, which is impressive for a folding phone. The phone features a 6000mAh battery, measures just 9.3mm thick when folded and 4.3mm when unfolded, and weighs 217 grams.

Design

vivo X Fold5 Launched In India: Complete Overview 4

The vivo X Fold5 features an improved design; it’s slimmer than the previous generation, measuring just 4.3 mm when unfolded and 9.3 mm when folded, which is comparable to the thickness of an average bar-type smartphone. In contrast, the last generation measured 10.2 mm. It now weighs just 217 grams, and the phone features a new carbon fibre support hinge, which is both light and reliable, having withstood 600,000 folding tests. The phone also supports IPX9+ and IP5X for dust resistance, and comes in just one colour, titanium grey, which is not great.

Display

The vivo X Fold5 features an 8.03-inch display as the main screen when unfolded, and the cover screen is a 6.53-inch one, with both featuring AMOLED displays with a 120 Hz refresh rate on both the main and cover screens and 4500 nits of peak brightness on both the main and cover displays. This is the peak brightness, which you can only hit on a pixel while watching videos in HDR.

The display also features LTPO 8T technology for dynamic refresh rate adjustments based on the content being watched. This feature adjusts the refresh rate and power consumption accordingly. The smartphone features 1920 Hz PWM dimming to reduce eye strain during low-light viewing and Armour Glass 2nd gen and 30% more puncture resistance on the screen.

Performance

The vivo X Fold5 features the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which is a year old. It’s too expensive for 20k extra; you could get the Z Fold 7, which features the Snapdragon 8 Elite. While it’s a significant improvement over the 8 Gen 2, for the pricing vivo has set, the chipset isn’t just great. One thing we are getting is its fast storage and RAM set, the LPDDR5X Ultra and UFS 4.1. It’s 10-15% faster again but uses QLC flash, which is known to be less reliable than the UFS 4.0’s TLC flash, and the LPDDR5X is the same thing but with a more gimmicky name of “Ultra.”.

The vivo X Fold5 also has a dedicated security chip that blocks spam and unwanted calls, which stops notifications from appearing on the phone while you are sharing your screen.

Camera

The vivo X Fold5 features a 50MP IMX882 with OIS support, a tele camera with 3x optical zoom and 100x hyper-zoom with support for 15cm macro, so it’s a telephoto camera with macro imaging support, an IMX921 OIS-based main camera, and a 50MP JN1 sensor that’s for ultrawide. A 20MP camera on the cover screen and the main screen, and video recording support up to 8K 30 fps on the rear camera, and on the front camera, we can record videos at 4K 30 fps, which is great.

The telephoto has 32 times denser focus pixels and 33% brighter night pictures and dual display preview, so you can capture on the main screen and see the images on the rear screen.

Battery

The vivo X Fold5 features a dual-cell 6000mAh silicon anode battery with 866 wh/l energy density and a 12% denser battery. The phone also features 80W flash charging and 40W flash wireless charging, which is faster than the competition, since the competition we have has 45W of flash charging and 15W wireless charging.

OS

The vivo X Fold5 features Funtouch OS 15, which is based on Android 15 out of the box, is expected to get four major updates, and gets AI image studio features like AI erase, AI magic move, AI photo enhancer, AI visual, and AI smart office features like AI captions and support for a shortcut button, and is inspired by the iPhone’s action button, AI smart call assistant, Origin Workbench, and Snap Text.

Pricing

The phone starts at ₹1,49,999 for the base 16+512GB variant and has a ₹15,000 instant discount on the phone on HDFC/ICICI CC/DC full swipe and EMI, which is going to cost you around ₹1,35,000 for the phone, which makes the pricing a lot more great. The phone also has a ₹15,000 exchange bonus and a year of extended warranty, which again looks great and makes the X Fold5 more recommendable.
