Sony has launched the Sony Xperia 1 VII, and it comes as the successor to the Sony Xperia 1 VI from last year. And it is now available for pre-orders. Here’s a look at its design, specs, and pricing
The Xperia 1 VII comes with the signature Sony Xperia design, which we have seen from the company for a while now.
1 VII has an IP65/IP68 rated for dust and water resistance, the front and rear panels are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and Victus. It is available in three colors: Moss Green, Orchid Purple, and Slate Black.
The Xperia 1 VII has a 6.5-inch 21:9 display, with 1080 x 2340 pixels, it has bezels at the top and bottom, and no punch holes. It has an FHD+ HDR OLED display which supports 120Hz refresh rate, Creator Mode, DCI-P3 100%, 10-bit tonal gradation, and Sunlight Vision. It’s 20% brighter compared to 1 VI.
Xperia 1 VII comes with the Snapdragon 8 Elite, with a vapor chamber system for better performance. It starts with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage, and supports a microSD card. It now has Wi-Fi 7 and double the Bluetooth transmission speed compared to the Xperia 1 VI.
Xperia 1 VII has a great camera system this year, AI photography takes center stage with real-time eye AF (human/animal), AI subject recognition, white balance, depth, and Ultra HDR support.
The physical shutter button is now slightly wider and more ergonomic.
- Main: 24mm f/1.9, 1/1.35” Exmor T sensor, OIS, PDAF
- Telephoto: 85-170mm f/2.3–3.5, 1/3.5” sensor, continuous zoom, 4cm telemacro
- Ultrawide: 16mm f/2.0, new 1/1.56” Exmor RS sensor (2.1x larger than before)
Xperia 1 VII has a 5,000mAh battery with support for 30W wired charging. Sony promises 2 full days of use and 36 hours of video playback. Long-term battery health is mentioned with Xperia Adaptive Charging and Battery Care, for maintaining 80% battery capacity after 4 years.
Sony Xperia 1 VII comes with Android 15 out of the box, Sony promises 4 OS upgrades and 6 years of security patches.
Sony still maintains great audio strengths, too:
- 3.5mm headphone jack with high-grade gold soldered connections for reduced signal loss
- Premium audio IC
- Front stereo speakers tuned with Sony Music, for delivering 10% richer bass
Pricing and Availability of Sony Xperia 1 VII
Xperia 1 VII comes with only a single 12/256GB variant, with a 512GB variant for Asia. It’s available for £1,399 / €1,499, with shipping starting in June across the UK and Europe.
The Sony Xperia 1 VII is not the best, but Sony does best in some areas, like professional photography. Compared to 1 VI, it has a new ultrawide sensor, Snapdragon 8 Elite, and better display brightness, but the high price is not justified. It’s made for creators.
