On 10th July Samsung released the next generation of their flip device. In this article we will compare the Z Flip 6 with Z Flip 5. While the design language of Z Flip 6 is similar to Z Flip 5 Samsung has given the Z Flip 6 some upgrades over its predecessor with more focus on the Galaxy AI features.

Samsung hasn’t done many changes in the design department of the Z Flip 6 compared to last years Z Flip 5. While the design remains similar they have upgraded the hardware of the Z Flip6. Let us see what those changes are and whether they make the Z Flip 6 a more complete device or not.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 vs Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5: Design
The design of the new Z Flip 6 is similar to its predecessor, samsung hasn’t changed the design compared to z flip 5. Even the dimensions and weight of Z Flip 6 is similar to Z Flip 5.
However, Samsung has done some improvements in the Z Flip 6 as it now comes with a IP54 rating much better then the IPX8 rating of Z Flip5 as it will offer a better resistance to water and dust. The Z Flip 6 will also be the first Flip device to feature a vapour chamber for managing heat during heavy tasks.

The main display is the same 6.7 inch dynamic 2X Amoled display used in flip 5. But the cover display is a decent upgrade compared to previous gen Flip devices and will provide better functionality.The crease in Z Flip 6 is less prominent than in the Z Flip 5
The cover screen in the Z Flip 6 is similar to Z Flip 5, it’s a 3.4-inch AMOLED panel with a 720 x 748 resolution and a 60Hz refresh rate but it is much inferior to Moto Razr’s cover screen as it is a 4-inch AMOLED panel with a 1080 x 2640 resolution and up to a 165Hz refresh rate.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 vs Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5: Performance
Z Flip 6 device has the newer snapdragon 8 gen 3 chip inside it which is an upgrade compared to previous years 8 gen 2 chipset. The 8 gen 3 scores close to 2 million on the Antutu benchmark compared to 1.6 million of 8 gen 2.
We can expect a better performance out of Z Flip 6 compared to Z Flip 5 because of its more advance processor and a vapour chamber paired with the well optimised One UI. which will greatly enhance the user experience and provide better performance then the Z Flip 5.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 vs Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5: Cameras
Samsung has upgraded the previous years 12MP camera sensor with a new 50MP camera sensor and a new Ultra wide camera . Aside from that there isn’t much difference in the camera setup compared to last year. It still has the same selfie camera as Flip 5.
The 12MP sensor Z Flip used dates back to S20 series as it was also used in the S20 series but Samsung has ditched the 12MP sensor for a newer 50MP sensor although the primary 50MP camera still comes with optical image stabilization, and Samsung states it supports 2x optical zoom, although we suppose the company means a sensor crop mode here.
Samsung says that the new ultra-wide camera also comes with an upgraded image sensor.but everything about the sensor is the same as last year’s ultra-wide sensor.
Galaxy AI plays a role in Z Flip 6 camera as it provides better 10× Zoom . The AI also reduces noise in Images and improves the HDR capabilities. It also provides Auto Zoom.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 vs Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5: Battery and Charging
Samsung has also upgraded the battery in the flip 6. The Z Flip 6 now has a 4000 mAh battery which is bigger then the 3700 mAh battery the flip 5 had and this upgrade will help in battery SOT time and will help the phone last a full day. However it still supports the same 25 w charging as last year.
Z Flip 6 provides better battery life due to its more advanced processor and optimised software.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 vs Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5: Software
The Samsung Z Flip 6 runs Android 14 based One UI software out of the box. It will get 4 years of OS updates and 5 years of security updates, the same as the Flip 5. But the Flip 5 came with android 13 so it will only get OS updates till Android 17 while Flip 6 will receive major OS updates till Android 18.
Z Flip 6 will have the Samsung AI features which were released with the S24 series and they will be free until 2025. The AI features you get with the new Z Flip are
Circle to search: Simply long-press the home button or menu bar, then circle the object on screen to search for it online.
Live translate: It provides real-time voice language translation during calls.
Photo assist: Similar to Google’s Magic Editor, the Galaxy AI’s photo assist allows you to modify or delete things from a photograph.

There are a few hardware upgrades in the new Z Flip 6 compared to its predecessor. The Z Flip 6 provides a better camera , a more powerful processor and a bigger battery compared to Z Flip 5 and also provides new galaxy AI features which gives the new Z Flip 6 some edge over its predecessor as it helps in image processing while also providing several new features that enhance the end results with the help of Galaxy AI.
