So here is today’s tech round-up with exciting news related to Google, OnePlus, and Samsung. So, read it till the end.
So there is no need to leave your game to change songs on Spotify
It’s not uncommon for people to listen to music while playing games on their Android phones. However, your options were limited if you wanted to change the tunes without leaving a game. Now, OnePlus and OPPO have revealed a solution in conjunction with Spotify.
OnePlus founder and OPPO chief product officer Pete Lau revealed on Twitter that Spotify now offers an in-game overlay tool for OPPO and OnePlus phones in “select markets.”
According to a screenshot posted by Lau (seen above), the overlay offers three pages of playlists for your convenience. Lau’s screenshot shows a “recently played” page of playlists, while a follower’s screenshot reveals a page of “recommended” playlists, too. That’s a major improvement over the basic media player widget in the notification shade, which only offers “previous” and “next” track controls.
Either way, we hope this feature eventually comes to phones from other brands as it’s a very convenient addition. We also hope rival music streaming services like YouTube Music offer this functionality down the line.
Samsung’s own leak confirms no price hike for the Galaxy Tab S10 in the US
Samsung is gearing up to launch their upcoming Samsung Galaxy S10 Series Tablets. We have already seen the leaked renders and now
Samsung’s US team accidentally made the pages for the Galaxy Tab S10+, Tab S10 Ultra, and Galaxy S24 FE live, revealing their pricing. Since then, the company has taken down the pages, but the folks over at Ytechb were quick enough to note the prices.
As recently reported, Samsung’s page reaffirmed the Galaxy S24 FE’s increased US pricing. The phone will retail for $650, a $50 hike over its predecessor. The 256GB model will cost you $710.
Unlike the Galaxy S24 FE, Samsung will supposedly keep the prices of its new tablets unchanged, as indicated by a leak from early September as well. The Galaxy Tab S10+ with 256GB storage should retail for $1,000, while the 512GB model may cost an extra $120. As for the Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra, prices start from $1,200 for the 12GB/256GB configuration and will purportedly go up to $1,620 for the model with 1TB storage and 16GB RAM.
Google rolling out Wear OS 5 to the original Pixel Watch and Pixel Watch 2
Following the launch of the Pixel Watch 3 earlier this month, Wear OS 5 is now rolling out to the original Pixel Watch and Pixel Watch 2 with the September 2024 security patch.
After skipping the usual first Monday of the month, the big Wear OS 5 update is rolling out to the first two Pixel Watch generations.
Based on Android 14, you also get the September 5, 2024 security patch level:
Google Pixel Watch 2: AW2A.240903.005.A1
Google Pixel Watch 1: AW2A.240903.005.A2
The rollout will continue over the next week in phases depending on carrier and device. Users will receive a notification on their watch once the OTA becomes available for their device. We encourage you to update to receive the latest software.
The updated OS brings “new features, numerous bug fixes, and performance updates.” This includes a media output switcher that “lets users choose which device should play media and show information about the currently-playing media content,” and the Privacy dashboard in Settings > Apps & notifications identifying access to permissions like location and microphone. Similarly, apps can take advantage of a screenshot detection API.
