So, starting the daily tech round-up with Google.

Circle to search could come to more phones

So, Google debuted Circle To Search earlier this year but it was limited only to few Samsung Phones and Google Pixel phones but now, Chinese smartphone maker TECNO has reportedly told YouTuber Ben Sin and Android Central (via Mishaal Rahman on X) that Circle to Search will be available on its new foldable, the Phantom V Fold 2, starting next month. This suggests that Google might finally be ready to end the feature’s exclusivity and offer it on devices from more Android OEMs.

Google has yet to make an official announcement, but TECNO’s claim aligns with the company’s goal of bringing Circle to Search to 200 million devices by the end of this year. At the moment, we can’t confirm if it will remain a flagship-only feature or if it will also make it to budget and mid-range devices.

Google is testing a new search feature, that looks similar to aI overview

Google’s AI Overview feature is a good idea with bad execution, and it looks like Google has a second similar Search feature in the works

The new tool, highlighted by Barry Schwartz on X (Twitter), via Android Authority, was first believed to be a tweaked version of AI Overviews. However, Google was quick to point out that the new UI users might be seeing on top of their Search results is a completely separate feature that is currently in testing, and unrelated to AI Overviews.

The fact that Overviews and the supposed new in-testing tool highlight the same information, albeit in slightly different words, is what prompted most to believe that the new tool might just be an extension of Overviews.

More importantly, though, users who spotted the new tool were alarmed by its omission of prominent ‘Generated by AI’ labeling. In the case of Overviews, a clear label is presented right at the top of the summary, as seen in the (left) image above. In the case of Google’s new in-development feature, the AI-generated label remains hidden until users press the tiny ‘More’ button below the summary, making it challenging for a regular discern between human-generated and AI-generated content.

Considering that the tool is still in testing, it is likely that Google will introduce a more conspicuous AI label to it. Regardless, based on its first looks, the feature appears to serve the same purpose as Overviews, making it kind of redundant, at least in the US.

New Flappy Bird with Crypto connections

Google

You might already know of Flappy Bird, the popular old game.

But things might change.

Earlier this week, mobile gaming got some surprise news when we learned Flappy Bird was coming back to smartphones. And while the project announced we’d be getting “the official Flappy Bird,” it hasn’t taken long for some voices of concern to start questioning exactly who’s behind this effort and what their intentions are.

So far it seems that it has got some crypto connections:

Google

Game assets invite users to connect their crypto wallets, and encourage them to “mine points” so they can “TAP, FLAP AND WIN!” The game’s API even reveals a leaderboard populated with the names of crypto influencers.
It is still premature at this stage so to speak.
