In this article, I have covered my initial impressions of the Lenovo LOQ 15, after using it for more than 2 weeks, so here we go.
Design
The design of the Lenovo LOQ 15 I own is so good. It’s one of the best laptop designs to me actually, and Lenovo compared to the previous model I had, the cooling this time even though the fans are not that loud.
Since the Lenovo LOQ 15 is a gaming laptop, it comes with an RGB keyboard with 4 zones of RGB, which is like you can customize it to the fact that you can have different colours on the numpad stuff, and it comes with 3 basic modes of breathing wave smooth, and you can customize the speed and brightness of them in the vintage, and the keyboard has 1.5mm travel, and the keyboard feels when I type the touchpad, which is here, is on the bigger side than I expected, and its texture is smooth, and it feels good.
Display and Speakers
My model features a BOE panel and it is 144hz with 100% SRGB gamut and has a 16:9 aspect ratio even though it has the same specifications as my last laptop which has 15in the panel, this display looks bigger than the laptop I had previously owned and as it’s a 100% sRGB panel the colours pop out whenever you are watching a movie and the model has adaptive refresh rate so that if you are on battery It can get to 60hz to save battery life and 144hz when you are charging and it flickers for a second to change between the refresh rates the LOQ has 2mp 1080p webcam which provides good quality video.
The Lenovo LOQ 15 comes with 2 speakers with each speaker giving 2W of output with Nahmic audio and the speakers aren’t that good tho if you need to get the best output from the speakers you have to manually tune the speakers really to get the best output from them.
Performance and Thermals
The LOQ has 4 performance modes, notably its performance, balanced with LA1 chip, quiet, and custom.
My system is equipped with 13450HX with RTX 4050 GPU and 24 GB of RAM.
Here are the Cinebench R23 and Time Spy Scores.
On my Lenovo LOQ 15, the 13450HX scored 16800 points in Cinebench R23 on Custom Every Setting set to full basically, and it drew around 120W (new update) to get that point. Maximum temperatures were 97 degrees, and 85 by the way all of these tests were done on wall power for best performance.
The Lenovo vantage also has the option to do GPU overclocking and the custom mode + Extreme mode automatically overclocks by 100mhz on the GPU and 200mhz on the memory for more performance for your GPU. You can also unlock CPU overclocking in the BIOS then you can underclock or overclock the CPU by going to BIOS and enabling Legion optimization to unlock the option for CPU overclocking on the Lenovo LOQ 15.
The custom has power limits for you to customize your Lenovo LOQ 15 according to your needs and the GPU has a TGP of 105W and it got a Time Spy Score of 9500 though when you max out both the CPU and GPU the included charger 170W isn’t enough for the laptop so you lose 3% of the battery percentage.
Battery
The Lenovo LOQ 15 comes with a 60wh battery and 170W by default, though you can get 230W, and it costs around 6,000. Get it only if you don’t want to have battery drains when you are using a CPU+GPU because when you stress both of them, power consumption goes to 185W even though 170W power brick.
The battery life is decent on my model; I got around 3h 40m when seeing a video with 0% volume and 60% brightness and on quiet mode for the best efficiency and without RGB on.
The charging speeds when you turn on rapid charge are the fastest charging ones I have seen (16.5 minutes to go to 50% from flat 0) and take just 43min to 100% capacity, but if you are keeping it plugged, I would suggest keeping it in conservation mode, which charges the battery to 80% and doesn’t charge beyond that for battery longevity.
Verdict
The Lenovo LOQ 15 is good for the price if you are looking for a price-performance ratio, but this has some downsides. Too many reported that motherboards are dying on these models and custom mode as they can’t go to that wattage and shut off after hitting 101 degrees. My unit had 4-5 shutdowns because of this. The price seems compelling at INR 81,000, but the Lenovo LOQ 15 AMD version, which has a bit slower CPU than this model but no issues on any side.
