Apple in their latest Glow Up event launched their new set of iPhones, watches and airpods. Here we’re going to discuss about the iPhone 16 Pro, the younger brother of Pro lineup in detail!
Design and Display:
iPhone 16 Pro retains the signature design Apple has been carrying over the past five years while making it more are more user friendly. It retains the subtle curve over the side frame like its predecessor. The brightness has been increased ever so slightly and the bezels have been reduced giving an almost bezel-less experience. From the previous year, there’s been an increase in size from 6.1-inch to 6.3-inch and thus packs in a bigger battery. There are four colour options and they all look really good. The shutter button is a new addition to the hardware which we will come to later.
Performance:
iPhone 16 Pro comes with the all-new A18 Pro SoC based on 2nd gen TSMC 3nm node. According to Apple, the A18 Pro offers a 20%-30% boost in performance overall including browsing and heavy gaming. A 16 Core Neural engine in A18 Pro offers a smooth use of Apple Intelligence and advanced camera usage.
Apple Intelligence:
The keyword of this year’s Apple event was AI, that is Apple intelligence. Here Apple has announced a ton of new AI features, customisations, and features that comes with the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max. These include Writing tools- Tools to edit write and update texts with AI. Summaries- To summarise the texts anywhere on the device. Priority messages- to prioritize the contacts in different apps. Genmoji- for creating your own emojis out of scratch. Image playground- to edit pictures and replace objects. Cleanup- To erase/ remove objects from photos. With the help of the New Siri, which is way better than whatever was present till iOS 17, it offers a new range of features for the users.
Apple Intelligence is just promised to arrive later this year via the iOS 18.1 update, that is all these features aren’t available out of the box as of now.
Software and Storage:
The iPhone 16 Pro boots with iOS 18 out of the box and comes with most of the features announced in the July WWDC event. Like the usual Apple fashion, the phone is expected to recieve a minimum of 5 years of Software updates and even more! iPhone 16 Pro starts at 128GB which is a big disappointment for 2024 standards, and goes up to 1TB. Even though no official confirmation, the RAM variants of 16 Pro is 8 GB even after speculations of usage of 12GB.
Cameras:
The telephoto camera of iPhone 16 Pro gets the awaited upgrade from 3x to 5x just like it’s elder brother Max. The ultrawide also gets the upgrade from 12MP to 48MP. Thus the cameras on Pro and Pro Max are the same unlike last year. The new addition this year is Camera Control button which offers a wide variety of camera features. You can press it once to open the camera app, then press again to take a photo, press and hold to start shooting a video. You can also slide on the camera control to switch between different modes of photography and videography. This is especially useful for videographers and photographers in general who shoot vertically.
Verdict:
Overall, the iPhone 16 Pro is a solid upgrade over iPhone 15 Pro with upgrades in almost all departments. Even though the increase in size might distract the small phone enthusiasts to the smaller 16, the Pro has its own set of audience. iPhone 16 Pro starts at ₹119900, a discount of ₹15000 from the previous iPhone 15 Pro for the base 128GB version and ₹169900 for the maximum storage variant of 1TB.
