Apple has announced the new iPhone 16 series, so let’s compare the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus with the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus and check what are the upgrades and changes.
Design
The iPhone 16 and 16 Plus features a new camera design in comparison to the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus’s camera module. The iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus feature a vertical pill camera layout which should improve the looks and look minimalistic while the older had a square-shaped camera cutout where the two cameras used to be placed adjacently. The new colours for the new iPhones are good too, there are new colours like Teal and Ultramarine which look like a replacement for the Green and Blue colours.
Display
The iPhone 16 comes in two display sizes: 6.1 inches for the iPhone 16 and 6.7 inches for the 16 Plus. The peak brightness is 2000 Nits and as low as 1 Nit in the dark. The display hasn’t changed much as it still has the same 60hz refresh rate for the non-pro models if you want a higher refresh rate you can go to above like pro but Apple claims that the display protection has been upgraded and is 50% tougher than the 1st generation ceramic shield protection which was used in iPhone 15 and 15 Plus and 2x tougher than any smartphone glass.
Performance
The iPhone 16 and 16 Plus both feature the Apple A18 chipset which is around 30% faster than the A16 in CPU and 40% Faster GPU than the A16 apple claims that GPU architecture is more efficient than the A16 chipset so it can deliver A16 Class Performance while consuming 35% lower power. It is built on a 2nd generation 3nm process node. The iPhone 16 series also has a thermal substructure built on recycled aluminium built on the phone to dissipate heat and it delivers around 30% higher sustained performance which is a huge jump.
The iPhone 16 series also gets RayTracing and hardware acceleration to improve the gaming performance by up to 5x higher FPS. The iPhone 16 series also gets AAA Games that were previously exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro series Resident Evil 7 Biohazard, and Assasians Creed Mirage which weren’t available to the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus.
Cameras
The cameras are unchanged really vs the 15 and 15 Plus but on the software side they get optimizations like spatial video recording it seems that the ultrawide camera is upgraded on the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus. Apple claims that this will allow for 2.6x more light for good low-light photos and the ultra-wide camera can take macro shots. Spatial photos and videos mean that you can take 3d photos and videos and view them on Apple Vision Pro for a good experience.
The iPhone 16 and 16 plus have camera control which works as a button to turn on the camera with a click and take photos and like change the camera’s aperture and zoom length.
Also, there are a lot of Apple intelligence features that are coming to the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus while iPhone 15 and 15 Plus can’t support like image cleanup which could remove unnecessary details like a person who was there in your photo.
