The under 20000 price range has witnessed multiple new releases in recent times. The availability of more options is always beneficial for the consumer. It encourages the brands to launch a better value product to survive in front of the competition. While having more options is beneficial, it sometimes creates confusion but you don’t worry! We are here to help you making your buying decision easy. In this article, we are comparing the CMF Phone 1 with the Motorola G85 smartphone. Read it till the end to know which one is better for your usage.

The CMF Phone 1 is sold for Rs 15999 for the 6GB + 128GB variant and the 8GB + 128GB variant costs Rs 17999 without offers. The Motorola G85 is sold for Rs 17999 for the 8GB + 128GB variant and the 12GB + 256GB variant costs Rs 19999 without offers. Both the phones are priced the same for the 8GB + 128GB variant and are praised for their software, which is why many buyers are confused. Let’s find out!

Design and Build

Both the phones have a complete polycarbonate build. Talking about the design, the CMF Phone 1 has a replaceable back panel which has a normal matte finish on the black and blue colour variants while the orange and light green colour variants have a vegan leather finish. The Motorola G85 comes with a non-replaceable back panel and it has a vegan leather finish in the Olive Green and Cobalt Blue colour variant and a matte finish in the Urban Grey.

The design is subjective and you can choose the one that you like but do remember, some reviewers and users are complaining that the back panel of the CMF Phone 1 is of low quality and it’s breaking easily.

Display

The CMF features a 6.67-inch FHD+ flat AMOLED display whereas the Motorola features a 6.7-inch FHD+ curved AMOLED display. Both phones have a 120Hz refresh rate. The display of G85 has a better screen-to-body ratio than the Phone 1.

It will be your choice whether you want a curved display or a flat one but the better screen-to-body ratio on the G85 makes it look more premium and curved displays are generally costlier.

Performance: A big difference!

Here comes a clear difference between both phones! The CMF Phone 1 is powered by the latest Dimensity 7300 chip whereas Motorola G85 is said to be powered by a newly launched chip, the Snapdragon 6s Gen 3. Here’s a cache, while 7300 is a new chip which is said to be the successor of the Dimensity 7050 whereas the 6s Gen 3 is just a slightly overclocked version of the 3 year old chipset, the Snapdragon 695.

You might be thinking what’s the problem here? The problem is that the 695 chipset is an old chip which has too many limitations like no 4K video recording support, no HDR video playback support and a weaker ISP whereas the 7300 is much powerful, supports 4K video recording and also supports HDR video playback.

CMF has an edge here. Snapdragon 6s Gen 3/695 is not worth paying 18000 in 2024. Even Motorola’s own G34 smartphone has the same processor and it’s sold for around 11000 price with lessor features.

Software: Tough competition

The CMF Phone 1 boots up on Nothing OS 2.6 based on Android 14 whereas the Motorola G85 boots up on Hello UI based on Android 14. Both the devices will get 2 years of Android updates and 3 years of security patches.

Both the UIs are clean and have no Ads and bloatware. Considering Motorola’s history of providing updates very late, Nothing OS has an edge here because of its history of delivering timely updates.

Cameras

The CMF has a 50MP (IMX 882) + 2MP dual rear camera setup and a 16MP selfie shooter whereas the Motorola has a 50MP (LYT 600) + 8MP dual rear camera and 32MP selfie camera.

Both the phones have the same main camera sensor and even after having a weaker ISP, the G85 gives tough competition to the Phone 1. It also has an 8MP ultrawide lens which the CMF doesn’t have. Talking about the selfie, Motorola’s 32MP lens captures more detailed photos from the front. You might be thinking that the Moto seems like a clear winner but it doesn’t support 4K video recording which can be a deal breaker for many so choose according to your preference.

Battery and Charging

Both the phones pack a 5000mAh battery inside with a support of maximum 33W charging. Moto provides you the charging brick inside the box for free whereas with CMF, you will have to purchase the charger separately for Rs 799.

G85 has a clear edge because of the free inclusion of the charger.

RAM and Storage

Both the phones have LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.2 storage.

Audio and Haptics

The CMF Phone 1 has a single speaker whereas the Motorola G85 has a dual speaker setup.

The G85 is louder and better.

Reasons to choose Motorola G85
